Well, life is busy...

I hardly have any time on dA right now... Kinda frustrating... My groups are feeling the pain because of it... Gotta make some time...

I do have a request for the dA community that is very important to me.

I will be submitting 5 pieces of art in a local art show, and, being biased myself, I am looking to my art officianados for assistance.

I need suggestions for 5 art-worthy prints from my gallery. The target audience is an upscale small-town America. It is a college town so I expect a sophisticated audience.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I have to order the prints soon, so time is of the essence.

Mood: Excited...

There comes a time in one's life that they choose to step back and reflect...

In my case, this happens often...

I do not regret past failures... They have shaped me...

I do not revel in past successes... They also have shaped me...

Do not misunderstand... I will admit that, if armed with the knowledge of my past conquests and failures and given the chance to relive those moments, I would have acted differently. But in that respect, we learn to appreciate the value of time and chance...

This teaches us the value of a moment... a thought... a revelation...

This is what I capture in my art...

My photographs tell a story... if you listen... if you watch... if you really look...

Look past the obvious... the composition, the tone... These principles have value but that is only a basis...

I do not scoff at convention... I appreciate the value of accepted traditions and practices... Time has tempered their worth...

But if our art consists only of compositional guidelines and imitated technique, we never really say anything...

My challenge to the world...

Is that we learn to tell stories...

It is important to learn your trade or medium, but let that be a foundation for your personal style and technique.

Let that be your springboard to capturing images that tell your stories...

Your triumphs and failures...

Your joy and sorrow...

Be a romantic... See the beauty in everything...

Look beyond the obvious... Challenge yourself to improve...

But most importantly...


Tell a story.

From his photography to his words of wisdom shared in his journals, Hugh is a friend to many here.

He is definitely one of my favorite artists here on dA... His sense of community surpasses that of most... He is quick to encourage and shares his wit and wisdom with all who appreciate...

Right now, Hugh is battling some health problems and I hope I can speak for him when I say that your thoughts and prayers would be most appreciated at this time...

If my words mean anything to you all, please stop by his page and offer encouragement to him...

Glad to have life return to a normal pace... All projects are over... Life has returned to a steady hum...

But my photography jobs are really starting to pick up... My buddy was talking to me about renting a studio... Not too realistic in the immediate future... but it's fun to think in those terms... I am surrounded by the right people, with the right talents, and I have the most fantastic support base some one could expect...

I've got it made...
